This flickr user has made the point that video games have always been violent...and has illustrated how he viewed kills from early video games. He notes in his description that while Mortal Kombat was the first graphic representation of murder or death, the idea has long been a main theme in videogames.

My cousin Zach made the Cutters team as a sophomore this year, and they went on to win this year's Little 500, which is a 200 lap bike race. This marked the first time that any team has one 3 years in a row.

Mike Patton from Tomahawk

Apr. 20th, 2009 | 04:12 am
location: Home
mood: cheerful cheerful
music: Mike Patton - Tomahawk

Hey everyone...its been nearly a month since my last post...I had a major video project I was working on and then ended up with Pneumonia. Sorry for the absence. I came across this the other day, and I think it might be the most epic thing I've ever seen.

Mike Patton is the lead singer...he also lead Faith No More, but I think this is probably the coolest thing he's ever done.

Notice he creates the effect at the beginning by wearing a gas mask...later creates distortion by exerting air as he sings in the mic and also creates an echo/reverb effect by using two mics with different compressions. Epic and genius. Hope you enjoy.

Safari 4.0 Beta

Feb. 24th, 2009 | 01:41 pm
location: Work
mood: impressed impressed
music: NIN

This is, in my opinion, the coolest thing about the new Safari BETA aside from the speed increase. I have all my most frequented sites arranged on one page as a thumbnail thanks to the feature called "top sites."

The way it works currently is to monitor which sites you use most frequently and then populate thumbnails of those sites on the top sites tab. I don't like this as it is since I am all about customization so I developed a workaround.

Clear all the sites from your top site tab and then go to the site you want to add and switch back to the top sites tab. Repeat this two or three times until the site gets added. At this point you can click the edit button in the bottom left corner and "pin" it so it won't ever move or get replaced.

As a side note - I made this post through firefox, I hope someone makes a mac compatible firefox addon that does this because I really like firefox better than Safari.

Weird IM spoofing...

Does anyone have any idea what might have transpired here? I have a very general idea of what happened, but is there anyone a little more techie reading who could enlighten me? I think this guy is a victim of a phishing scam.

9:19:02 AM drearysalmon: Say to David, "The king wants no other price for the bride than a hundred Philistine foreskins, to take revenge on his enemies."

9:21:43 AM me: Who's david? and why would he want to know about a particular king's interest in Philistine foreskins? I'm sure a good google search would return all sorts of matches that the king could peruse joyfully and he wouldn't even be required to give up said bride. No need to bring David in on this situation.

9:23:08 AM drearysalmon: Who is this?

9:23:18 AM me: well...you imd me

9:23:27 AM me: 9:19:02 AM drearysalmon: Say to David, "The king wants no other price for the bride than a hundred Philistine foreskins, to take revenge on his enemies."

9:24:22 AM me: read the history I just posted above...

9:24:49 AM me: at 9:19:02am this morning you sent me the request to say that quote to someone named david

9:25:26 AM me: if you didn't send that message i would do an antirvirus and spyware scan on your pc

9:25:33 AM me: cuz youve got a spyware bot

9:26:10 AM drearysalmon: well.. fuck.

9:26:11 AM drearysalmon: ... really?

9:26:22 AM drearysalmon: cause I was about to say those were all from people that aren't my name.

9:26:29 AM me: that would be my assumption...ive heard of bots that send out random messages to people before

9:26:39 AM me: is your name drearysalmon?

9:26:53 AM drearysalmon: no

9:27:03 AM me: very weird then...that is who it is telling me I am still talking to

9:27:32 AM drearysalmon: oh hahaha

9:27:38 AM drearysalmon: ************* is this screen name. (***CENSORED***)

9:28:09 AM drearysalmon: are you agnosticcoho?

9:28:15 AM me: lol no

9:28:23 AM drearysalmon: ....

9:28:29 AM drearysalmon: interesting.

9:28:31 AM drearysalmon: well its telling me your agnosticcoho.

9:28:35 AM me: ....i think you have a serious problem with your IM client

9:29:23 AM drearysalmon: maybe its a serious problem with your Im client?

9:29:26 AM drearysalmon: cause you're the first and only person who has ever done this to me...

9:29:46 AM me: doubtful. im on a mac on a cross-platform client. this would be virtually impossible to spoof

9:29:58 AM me: what client are you on? yahoo? aim?

9:29:58 AM drearysalmon: mmmm

9:30:38 AM me: also...most ppl probably would have ignored your message

9:30:46 AM me: i thought id have fun with what i thought was a spambot

9:30:52 AM drearysalmon: mmmm

9:31:07 AM drearysalmon: well I can look into it I just doubt its from my computer...

9:31:55 AM me: i dont have any more info for ya...but so you know...you are sending out random IMs from the SN drearysalmon

9:33:31 AM drearysalmon: the reason I don't really believe that is caue I wasn't even hooked up to the internet at that time.

9:33:33 AM drearysalmon: so I couldn't have sent anything.

9:34:01 AM me: well....then someone may be using your account to spoof spam when you are offline

9:34:18 AM me: simply put...i got a message from drearysalmon...responded...and it went to you

This is the end of the convo...very weird. Does anyone have any ideas?

The Gothic/Emo Post

Dec. 21st, 2008 | 11:46 pm
location: Home
mood: Emo :( Emo :(
music: Type O Negative

Its been a while since I've posted...I've been really busy this holiday season. Initially meant as a Halloween post, this post is having its debut later on in the year.

To preface -- Jason pointed out that I am very much like a vampire...here are the 5 reasons he came up with.

1. I ate Papa John's garlic sauce and felt sick afterward...just as I do anytime I ingest garlic...and I abhor the smell of garlic. This is due to an allergy to garlic.

2. I'm light sensitive...I hate having bright lights on for long periods of time and abstain from sunlight as much as possible.

3. I like my steak a little bloody (medium)

4. If I am sitting somewhere and there is a tray full of alot of somethings I have to play with them and count how many there are. There are no exceptions to this.

5. I can't cross large bodies of running water without a vessel of some sort.

I'll allow you to make your own determinations...

I attended this announcement, and it was certainly an electrifying event. Armed with my digital rebel and plenty of photo opportunities, here's what I ended up with.

Governor Dave Heineman took the stage first and actually made the announcement.

This is David Brown, President/CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, otherwise known to me as Dad. He introduced alot of the people involved with the project to bring Yahoo! to Omaha.

The Yahoo representatives were presented cowbells with silk-screened graphics and a large husker hat with the Y! logo attached to the side.

Here stands Governor Dave Heineman...but what's this? (zoom sound effect)

The Governor is rockin' purple cons in honor of Yahoo! Pure awesomeness.

As an added bonus, three of my pictures are now featured on the Governor's state website. See two posts above for the links.
